Politician: Nancy Pelosi

Born on March 26, 1940, Nancy Patricia D’Alesandro Pelosi was selected to be the Minority Leader of the United States House of Representatives. She served as the 60th Speaker for the United States House of Representatives from 2007 to 2011. Peloski was the first woman speaker of the house and she is ranked highest among the female politicians in the country. 

Peloski has represented the 8th Congressional District of California as a Democratic Party member since 1987. She also served as the House Minority Whip from 2002 to 2003 when her party was not in power. The first Italian American and first woman to lead a major party in the Congress, Peloski comes from a political family.

Her father was a Democratic party US Congressman from Maryland and also held the office of the Mayor of Baltimore. Peloski, therefore got involved in politics at an early age and remembers that she was present at the inaugural address of John F. Kennedy. 

Schooling for Peloski was at the Institute of Notre Damein in Baltimore and she went to colleg at the Trinity College (now called trinity Washington University) in Washington D.C. She graduated in 1962 with a degree in political science and started her career as an intern with Senator Daniel Brewster. 

Today she is considered to be one of the richest members of the Congress.
